This was a large project to construct two double storey extensions on either side of the property and a single storey extension with extended canopy roof to the front elevation and the removal of the front door and surround to be replaced with a new front door and glass surround. Also there were extensive alterations to the inside of the house.
First, the smaller of the double storey extensions was constructed to house a new bedroom upstairs and a dining area to the groundfloor. We also did some alterations internally to this side of the house. These comprised of, downstairs, taking out a floor to ceiling fireplace in the existing lounge and putting in all the necessary plumbing and electrics for a new kitchen. Upstairs we knocked through the existing window to the back elevation to form a doorway to the new bedroom. We then erected a stud wall across the existing room to form a smaller bedroom and formed a new window opening in it to the side elevation.
Once this part of the project was finished, the clients could live in this side of the house. This enabled us to carry out the construction of the extensions and alterations to the other parts of the house.
We started by building the front and back extensions up to first floor level. We then removed the existing low level roof which ran from front to back. We pitched the new roof using attic trusses. The original roof construction design for this part of the project was changed to enable the client the best possible results in both the way it would look and the amount of space they would gain. We then again changed the internal layout of the building upstairs to suit the clients needs. This consisted of a bedroom, en-suite bathroom and changing room with wardrobes. Downstairs we formed four new rooms; a lounge, downstairs toilet, utility room and study.
The final part of the project was to remove the existing front door and surrounding timber area and replace it with a new front door with a glass surround. We also took out the floor and ceiling to this part of the hallway to allow light into both upstairs and downstairs.
When we were nearing the completion of the project the clients asked us to lay them a new patio area with steps across the back of the property and leading down to a new garden room which they supplied. We then levelled the area surrounding the garden room with topsoil and laid new turf.
